Deposed champions FC International Turku booked their berth in European competition next season thanks to a 2-1 victory against Tampere United in the Finnish Cup final on Saturday evening.
Kavén heroics
Tampere took the lead through Jonne Hjelm's early goal but Inter, who could only finish fifth in their league title defence, equalised just before the interval through 19-year-old Nigerian Kennedy Nwanganga. In the second half Inter created several good chances but Tampere goalkeeper Mikko Kavén kept his side in the game with a couple of great saves.
Furuholm winner
In the 77th minute, however, Timo Furuholm was able to beat the former Finnish international following a corner and Tampere could not find a way back. "Of course it is always great to win trophies," said Inter coach Job Dragtsma. "It was not an easy game, but I think we deserved the win. We were the better side today."
