1. FC Nürnberg have confirmed the appointment of former Hannover 96 coach Dieter Hecking as the successor to Michael Oenning, with the new boss "really looking forward to this new task".
Short-term contract
Nürnberg announced the departure of Oenning on Monday and have moved swiftly to fill the void. Hecking, 45, stepped down from his post at Hannover in August and has since been out of work. He inherits a side second from bottom of the Bundesliga and in the midst of four straight defeats without a goal. "I am really looking forward to this new task," said Hecking. "Every coach who has worked in the Bundesliga believes he can help a team in such a difficult situation." Hecking signs a deal until the end of the season with an option for a further year which will be automatically triggered should he steer Nürnberg clear of relegation.
