• A midfielder in the 1950s and 1960s for small clubs like FC Trud Noginsk, Dr Viacheslav Koloskov shone as an administrator before and after the fall of the Soviet Union, moving from a job as a lecturer at the University of Physical Culture to take charge of the USSR Sports Committee's football and hockey sections in 1979.
• First appointed as head of the USSR Football Federation in 1990, he served as Football Union of Russia president until 2005. He also performed duties as a FIFA and UEFA Executive Committee member, saying former UEFA president Artemio Franchi took him under his wing when they first met in 1980, when Koloskov was FIFA's youngest ever vice-president.
• Still a keen sportsman, the former Moscow government football team stalwart has said: "Football is for me both love and hate. Love in that I have been involved in football since my childhood, as a player and an official, and my whole family has faced the consequences. It is also hate in times when certain decisions are unpleasant or harmful, but it is much more love than hate."
