• An immensely popular figure in the world of German football, Dr h.c. Egidius Braun also performed sterling service during over a decade of work with UEFA, which culminated in an eight-year spell as vice-president of the UEFA Executive Committee.
• His work in football began at the German Football Association (DFB), where he served as treasurer from 1977 to 1982. He later enjoyed a spell on the board at 1. FC Köln (1983-1987) before serving as DFB president from 1992 to 2001.
• Also a member of the German Olympic Committee, Braun established a foundation to help adolescents in need and always strived to support smaller nations during his time at UEFA, while his Project '74 aimed to build bridges between Germany and the Netherlands through sport.
