Sándor in tune with Videoton outlook

György Sándor says he has been charmed by FC Videoton's "brand of wholly attacking football" after joining the 1. Liga leaders on a two-and-a-half year deal from third-placed Újpest FC.

Rational thought
The Ukrainian-born midfielder has played a significant role in Újpest's title drive this season but, with his contract up in the summer, he admits he did not have to mull Videoton's overtures for too long. "I evaluated a few things," said the 25-year-old. "I realise Vidi not only have clear ambitions but the management were committed to my joining. It's rare that when a player only has six months on his contract a club is ready to pay to have him there and then. So my transfer also stood to help Újpest financially; putting rationality above emotions, I made the move.

'Clear goals'
"Videoton play a brand of wholly attacking football that is, of course, appealing for a midfielder who has attacking duties," Sándor added. "Also, I believe that they have one of the most professional set-ups in Hungary to guarantee their good work continues." The only real surprise is that the man capped four times by Hungary did not look further afield. Yet for Sándor, György Mezey's team fit the bill perfectly, the ex-PFC Litex Lovech midfielder adding: "It is very important for a player to have clear goals as that is the only way we can maintain our performance and improve." Having won the first editions of the Hungarian League Cup over the past two years, Videoton have sights firmly on the 1. Liga title after Sándor's capture.
