Robben restores Bayern's lead

FC Bayern München have replaced FC Schalke 04 at the top of the Bundesliga after coming from behind to beat SC Freiburg 2-1 thanks to two late goals from Netherlands winger Arjen Robben.

Arjen Robben struck twice in the closing 14 minutes to send FC Bayern München to the Bundesliga summit with a 2-1 win against SC Freiburg.

FC Schalke 04 had assumed the ascendancy courtesy of a 2-1 win against VfB Stuttgart on Friday evening but now drop down to second, two points adrift. Bayern fell behind to second-bottom Freiburg on 31 minutes, Cedric Makiadi curling in a measured shot from the edge of the penalty area. Robben, whose goal against ACF Fiorentina secured Bayern's progress into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, then came to the fore, drawing Louis van Gaal's side level before completing the turnaround from the penalty spot with seven minutes left.

BV Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, enhanced their hopes of European qualification with a 4-1 victory at VfL Bochum 1848. Bochum, who are four points clear of the bottom three, were already two behind – due to goals from Sebastian Kehl (18) and Mohamed Zidan (27) – when Miloš Marić was dismissed (33). They did halve the deficit through Lewis Holtby eight minutes after half-time but Lucas Barrios struck twice in quick succession (74, 77) to ensure Jürgen Klopp's side go fourth.

Hamburger SV will reassume that position on Sunday if they beat a Bayer 04 Leverkusen side who themselves hope to close their six-point gap to Bayern. 1. FSV Mainz 05 have risen to seventh having beaten 1. FC Köln 1-0 despite playing for 63 minutes with only ten men after Aristide Bancé was red-carded.

VfL Wolfsburg were the day's most comfortable victors, seeing off VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-0. Zvjezdan Misimović and Edin Džeko struck either side of half-time – the latter via the penalty spot – before Christian Gentner (58) and Džeko (80) completed the scoring. Hertha BSC Berlin stay rooted to the bottom following a 2-1 defeat by 1. FC Nürnberg, while Hannover 96 triumphed against nine-man Eintracht Frankfurt by the same scoreline.
