Ioan Andone has returned to his homeland to take charge of FC Rapid Bucureşti after leaving PFC CSKA Sofia by mutual consent on Tuesday.

Andone was in charge for six games in Bulgaria – winning two, drawing three and losing one – and he could face a similarly short spell at Rapid. The coach has signed a two-month contract with an option for a three-year extension if the capital club qualify for the UEFA Europa League. Rapid are seventh, four points off the European places.

The 50-year-old Andone, who replaces Nicolae Manea, has previously guided two clubs, FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti (2004) and CFR 1907 Cluj (2008), to the Romanian double.
