FC Internazionale Milano have fallen off the top of Serie A for the first time in more than five months after AS Roma's 2-1 win against Atalanta BC.
Inter were held to a 2-2 draw by ACF Fiorentina on Saturday, meaning maximum points for Roma would send Claudio Ranieri's side out in front for the first time in over two years. Though relegation-threatened Atalanta had won three of their last four, it took the Giallorossi just 12 minutes to take the lead, Mirko Vučinić's shot somehow squirming beyond visiting goalkeeper Andrea Consigli. Number two arrived on 27 minutes through Marco Cassetti's diving header and though Simone Tiribocchi halved the arrears eight minutes after the restart, Roma clung on.
Titleholders Inter are also just three points clear of third-placed AC Milan after Leonardo's charges came from two behind to salvage a 2-2 draw with Calcio Catania. Catania were two to the good at the interval, but Marco Borriello earned his side a point with a close-range header (47) and a thumping finish ten minutes from time.
Ten points separate Milan from US Città di Palermo after they secured a 3-1 home win against AC Chievo Verona with the help of Fabrizio Miccoli's 14th and 15th league goals of the campaign. UC Sampdoria and Juventus remain hot on Palermo's heels in the race for the top four, though, having won 1-0 against Genoa CFC and Cagliari Calcio respectively.
AS Livorno Calcio are bottom of the table following a 2-0 defeat by Udinese Calcio, while second-bottom AC Siena gave their survival hopes a shot in the arm via a 3-2 victory over AS Bari. Lastly, S.S. Lazio moved above Bologna FC and into 16th with a 3-2 triumph over the Rossoblu in northern Italy.
