David Bystroň's 68th-minute goal saw FC Viktoria Plzeň overcome FK Jablonec 97 2-1 in the Czech Cup final, to earn a return to European football for the first time since 1971.
The 1970/71 Czechoslovak Cup winners secured only the second honour in their history in an open final in Prague. League runners-up Jablonec were eager to take some silverware from what has been their most successful season ever, but Milan Petržela put Plzeň ahead after two minutes.
David Lafata – who scored eleven league goals this season – levelled for Jablonec on the hour, but defender Bystroň had the final say for the side that finished fifth in the table. "It's one of the pinnacles of my career," said Plzeň coach Pavel Vrba, who won the Slovakian title with MŠK Žilina in 2006/07.
