Three in a row for cup specialists Bangor

Bangor City FC won the Welsh Cup for the third successive year courtesy of a thrilling 3-2 victory against Port Talbot Town FC at the Parc Y Scarlets ground in Llanelli.

The match was in added time at the end of 90 minutes when Dave Morley headed in a free-kick from substitute Sion Edwards and completed a cup hat-trick for the north Wales club, who will enter the second qualifying round of next season's UEFA Europa League as a result. It was a cruel twist for a Port Talbot team who had fought their way back from 2-0 down and looked set to take the game into extra time.

Lee Hunt (6) and Jamie Reed (15) put Bangor in charge early on, the former seizing on an error from goalkeeper Lee Kendall before Reed headed in the second. The Steelmen responded via a rising drive from Drew Fahiya (57) and equalised with five minutes remaining when Martin Rose – who helped create their opener – chested down a cross for Liam McCreesh to score.

Neville Powell, whose Bangor team have remained undefeated in 18 Welsh Cup ties under him, said: "My players have guts and they've been fantastic all season. They deserve this reward. It looked as if Port Talbot could go on and win it but we showed our character and it means everything to the fans and the players to be back in Europe again." Port Talbot will also compete in the UEFA Europa League by virtue of a third-place finish in the Premier League.
