Former Belgium striker Bob Peeters has taken charge of Cercle Brugge KSV on a two-year contract, replacing the KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen-bound Glen De Boeck.
The 36-year-old Peeters, who played for K. Lierse SK, Roda JC, BV Vitesse, Millwall FC and KRC Genk, is beginning his maiden first-team coaching post, having been in charge of the KAA Gent reserves last season.
"It doesn't matter if you are 36 or 56 as a coach, as long as you have the passion," said Peeters. "I also discussed it with Michel Preud'homme [his former boss at Gent]. He told me to grab this opportunity." Peeters' charges will play in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round next term as losing Belgian Cup finalists.
KV Mechelen have also appointed a new coach, with 48-year-old Marc Brys having left Dutch side FC Den Bosch to sign a one-year deal. He succeeds Peter Maes who left for KSC Lokeren OV.
