AC Cesena and FC Internazionale Milano are tied on seven points at the Serie A summit following victories on Sunday.
Cesena prevailed at home against US Lecce despite Giuseppe Colucci's dismissal eight minutes before half-time. Erjon Bogdani scored the only goal nine minutes after the interval and Lecce's misery was complete when Gianni Munari was sent off late on. Massimo Ficcadenti's league leaders have yet to concede a goal in three matches since their return to the top flight.
Sitting ominously in second are Inter, who had two second-half Samuel Eto'o goals to thank for a 2-1 victory at US Città di Palermo, who took a 28th-minute lead through Josip Iličić. UC Sampdoria could have joined the pacesetters with victory against SSC Napoli in the late game but conceded twice in the final seven minutes to fall to a 2-1 loss and 11th place. AC Chievo Verona are third, a point adrift of top spot, following a 1-0 home defeat by Brescia Calcio, who have climbed to fifth behind S.S. Lazio.
Juventus were the day's biggest winners, triumphing 4-0 at bottom-placed Udinese Calcio − their first win of the season. Andrea Coda gave the Bianconeri the lead when he turned the ball into his own net, before further goals from Fabio Quagliarella, Claudio Marchisio and Vincenzo Iaquinta confirmed the result.
Still seeking their opening victory of the campaign are AS Roma, who surrendered a two-goal lead in drawing 2-2 at home with Bologna FC.
