Sevilla FC missed the chance to move level with Liga pacesetters Real Madrid CF and Valencia CF on ten points from four matches after being held to a 1-1 draw by Real Racing Club.
Unbeaten Sevilla appeared well placed to claim their position at the summit when Álvaro Negredo's 13th-minute penalty broke the deadlock only for Pablo Pinillos (54) to snatch a draw for the visitors. Villarreal CF moved third and within a point of the leading pair as Nilmar struck the only goal at home to winless RC Deportivo La Coruña.
Málaga CF made it two wins out of two away from home as they won 2-0 at UEFA Europa League hopefuls Getafe CF. José Rondón opened the scoring after 54 minutes before the hosts' demise was confirmed shortly after the hour when Rafa was dismissed and Apoño converted from the penalty spot.
