Former Slovakia defender Peter Dzúrik, who scored twice in 45 international appearances between 1997 and 2003, has died at the age of 41 following a serious illness.

The Kosice-born Dzúrik won a Slovakian Cup with 1. HFC Hummenné in 1996 and then took the national title four times in the space of five seasons – twice with both MFK Košice and AŠK Inter Bratislava, with the latter pair combined with two more Slovakian Cups. He also played with Košice as they became the first Slovakian side to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage in 1997/98. He retired after a spell at FK Dukla Banská Bystrica in 2005 and went on to coach the club's youth team before succumbing to a brain tumour.
