Stade Rennais FC have taken over at the top in Ligue 1 for the first time in 40 years after engineering an impressive 3-1 triumph against Toulouse FC.
Rennes knew that victory would put them a point clear in pole position following AS Saint-Etienne's 1-1 draw with Olympique de Marseille on Saturday and they took the lead courtesy of Romain Danzé just before half-time. A goal from Kader Mangane and Sylvain Marveaux's penalty then put the seal on the result in the final 13 minutes, before Moussa Sissoko's late consolation for fifth-placed Toulouse.
Four points back in third are LOSC Lille Métropole, for whom Moussa Sow helped himself to a double in their 3-1 success against mid-table Montpellier Hérault SC. Paris Saint-Germain FC and OGC Nice played out a goalless stalemate in Sunday's other fixture.
