AC Milan missed the chance to return to the top of Serie A after Juventus triumphed 2-1 at San Siro thanks to Alessandro Del Piero's club record 179th Serie A goal.

Del Piero pounced with 25 minutes remaining after Mohamed Sissoko had mis-hit a shot to better Giampiero Boniperti's mark for Juve and earn the visiting side all three points. Earlier in a thrilling first half, Fabio Quagliarella scored the fourth goal of his loan at Juve from SSC Napoli on 24 minutes with a fine header from Paolo De Ceglie's cross. Del Piero doubled Juve's advantage 20 minutes into the second half and though Zlatan Ibrahimović pulled one back for Milan in the 82nd minute, Juventus held on.

Milan are now a point adrift of second-placed FC Internazionale Milano, who won 1-0 at Genoa CFC on Friday, and two behind leaders S.S. Lazio, who are away to US Città di Palermo on Sunday afternoon. Juve climb to fourth, two points behind Milan.

AS Roma leapt to seventh in Saturday's other game after beating US Lecce 2-0. Nicolás Burdisso struck just after the hour and Mirko Vučinić added the second with 14 minutes left, following which Francesco Totti and Lecce's Rubén Olivera were dismissed for fighting. Totti is therefore set to miss next weekend's derby with Lazio.
