Champions FC Bayern München continue to struggle in the Bundesliga this time around after being held to a goalless draw at Hamburger SV that leaves them in ninth spot.
Ten points off the pace at the start of play, Louis van Gaal's charges had the chance to lay the foundations of a revival by leaping into the top six. But they failed to sparkle once again and remain the joint lowest goalscorers in the division with eight goals from nine games.
It could have been worse for Bayern – who have won all three of their matches in UEFA Champions League Group E – had Jonathan Pitroipa not fired a glorious chance against the post with nine minutes remaining for Hamburg, who climb to fourth with the point.
