Chelsea FC stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points courtesy of a 2-0 win at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, while West Bromwich Albion FC's good form continued with a first-half fightback against Fulham FC.

Goals by Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou earned the Blues victory and left Wolves, without a win since the opening day, above West Ham United FC − beaten 2-1 at home by Newcastle United FC − on goal difference. With Manchester City FC hosting Arsenal FC on Sunday, Chelsea sent out a powerful message to their title rivals with a fifth successive home win this term.

Earlier, Tottenham Hotspur FC passed up the chance to move level with City after being held to a 1-1 draw by Everton FC. Leighton Baines put the visitors ahead with a first-half free-kick, before Rafael van der Vaart levelled with his fourth league goal of the season.

West Brom drew level on points with Spurs after overcoming Fulham 2-1. Though Scott Carson's own goal gave the Cottagers the lead, Youssuf Mulumbu (17) and Marc-Antoine Fortuné (40) turned the game in the hosts' favour. Elsewhere, Birmingham City FC and Sunderland AFC triumphed against Blackpool FC and Aston Villa FC respectively.
