Former Finland midfielder Jarkko Wiss has been unveiled as the new coach of Tampere United.

Wiss has signed an initial two-year contract at his home-town club with the option of a two-season extension. The 38-year-old takes over from Ari Hjelm, who announced earlier this year that 2010 would be his last campaign in charge following a successful decade-long spell that yielded three national titles and one Finnish Cup.

Following a playing career that brought 45 international caps and spells in Norway, England and Scotland, Wiss turned to coaching after hanging up his boots at Tampere in 2007. He has had stints at the helm of club and national youth sides but this will be his first senior coaching role. Tampere finished their 2010 league campaign last Saturday, coming seventh in the 14-team table.
