Borussia Dortmund's dominant start to the Bundesliga season shows no sign of waning after they strode four points clear at the summit thanks to a 4-0 victory at Hannover 96.

Buoyed by a second straight reverse for nearest challengers 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday, Jürgen Klopp's men settled quickly into their rhythm when Shinji Kagawa scored his fifth of the season after 11 minutes, and they took firm control as Lucas Barrios claimed his sixth of the campaign 18 minutes from time.

Karim Haggui's red card hampered Hannover further and – despite Nuri Şahin missing a penalty – BVB took advantage with late goals from substitutes Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Błaszczykowski. Seven points off the pace, meanwhile, Bayer 04 Leverkusen climbed to third by coming from behind to beat 1. FC Kaiserslautern 3-1, with Sidney Sam on target twice.

SV Werder Bremen completed a miserable week by suffering a 6-0 collapse at VfB Stuttgart. Cacau scored twice as the hosts, who surged out of the relegation zone with the victory, established a 3-0 lead at the interval. The goals kept coming after half-time to add to the pain inflicted on Thomas Schaaf's side by the 2-0 defeat at home against FC Twente on Tuesday.
