Strømsgodset IF are celebrating their fifth Norwegian Cup triumph after overcoming minnows Follo FK 2-0 in the final.
Despite operating in the second tier last season, Follo ousted Premier Division champions Rosenborg BK in the semi-finals to earn their place in the showpiece. Strømsgodset proved too much of an obstacle, however, and the favourites took the lead on the half-hour when Ola Kamara nodded in a Joel Riddez cross. Glenn Andersen then doubled the deficit with a close-range header from a corner three minutes before the break.
"It feels really nice to be Norwegian Cup winners," said Strømsgodset coach Ronny Deila. "I was calm during the whole match as we controlled proceedings. I'm a little disappointed that the team didn't perform even better, but that hardly matters in a cup final."
The 35-year-old is already looking forward to guiding his side through qualifying for the UEFA Europa League next season. "Now we're guaranteed a place in Europe next year," he said. "That will be a new and exciting challenge for my young team. It's important for the development of players to be challenged on an international level as well."
