AFC Ajax captain Luis Suárez will not play any domestic games until February after the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) handed down a seven-match domestic ban to the striker.

Suárez will be suspended for six Dutch First Division games and one Dutch Cup tie, becoming available for selection again on 4 February 2011 when Ajax are due to play De Graafschap in the Eredivisie. The sanction applies only to domestic competitions, however, and does not affect the 23-year-old's eligibility for Ajax's concluding UEFA Champions League group stage match at AC Milan on 8 December.

The KNVB issued the ban after an incident in which Suárez bit opponent Otman Bakkal during Ajax's 0-0 Eredivisie draw against PSV Eindhoven last Sunday. The Uruguayan international already had a suspended one-match ban hanging over him following his sending-off in the Dutch Super Cup game against FC Twente in July.
