Former Russia coach Yuri Semin has been dismissed by FC Lokomotiv Moskva after a fifth-place finish in the Russian Premier-Liga.

The board decided to part company with the club's most successful trainer despite Lokomotiv qualifying for the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League and Semin having three years left on his contract. Lokomotiv had a mixed 2010 season, qualifying for Europe thanks largely to seven wins in an 11-game unbeaten run towards the end of the campaign, but losing to FC Lausanne-Sport of the Swiss second tier in the UEFA Europa League play-offs.

Semin, 63, began his second spell in charge of Lokomotiv in June 2009, having previously been involved with the team in one capacity or another – including a stint as president – for over 20 years. During that time he led them to the league title in 2002 and 2004, and lifted the Russian Cup four times.
