Stade Rennais FC spurned the opportunity to regain the Ligue 1 leadership from Stade Brestois 29 when they drew 1-1 at home with Olympique Lyonnais.

Rennes, whose fixture at Olympique de Marseille last weekend was postponed because of heavy rain, opened the scoring through Jires Kembo-Ekoko's fifth-minute effort. Michel Bastos equalised nine minutes into the second half for Les Gones. Rennes are a point behind Brest, who visit LOSC Lille Métropole on Sunday, when Marseille − two points further back − travel to Paris Saint-Germain FC.

There was joy, though, for bottom-of-the-table AC Arles-Avignon, who recorded their first victory of the season in any competition, Kaba Diawara scoring twice in a 3-2 home win against SM Caen. Elsewhere, Kevin Gamiero also weighed in with two − his second coming eight minutes from time − as FC Lorient beat fifth-placed AS Saint-Étienne 2-1, ending Les Verts' unbeaten home record.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux and UEFA Champions League contenders AJ Auxerre remain stuck in mid-table, however, after 1-1 draws with Valenciennes FC and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard respectively.
