S.S. Lazio's lead at the top of Serie A has been cut to two points after a pair of penalties handed AS Roma a 2-0 victory in the capital derby, with AC Milan now the Biancocelesti's closest pursuers thanks to their 3-2 success at AS Bari.

Hoping to extend their run of five wins to make the most of FC Internazionale Milano's draw with Brescia Calcio on Saturday, Lazio fell behind on 52 minutes when Marco Borriello struck from the spot following a Stephan Lichtsteiner handball. Roma then made sure of hauling themselves up to seventh three minutes from time when André Dias brought down Júlio Baptista and Mirko Vučinić did the rest.

Milan likewise got the better of their city neighbours by moving a point ahead of champions Inter into second spot with Massimo Ambrosini, Mathieu Flamini and Pato on target at basement outfit Bari. In fourth, Juventus also won, 3-1 at home against second-bottom AC Cesena, who lost Maximiliano Pellegrino to a red card close to half-time. Level on points, SSC Napoli defeated Parma FC 2-0 courtesy of an Edinson Cavani double, while ACF Fiorentina continued their recovery by seeing off AC Chievo Verona 1-0.
