Chelsea FC have extended their Premier League lead to four points thanks to a 1-0 win against Fulham FC and Manchester United FC's goalless draw at Manchester City FC.

Michael Essien's close-range header (30) from a Salomon Kalou cross proved sufficient for Carlo Ancelotti's charges to take the points against west London neighbours Fulham, despite the goalscorer's late dismissal. United could not follow suit as they were held in a disjointed contest by  fourth-placed City.

Arsenal FC are a point shy of Sir Alex Ferguson's men courtesy of a 2-0 success at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. The opener arrived inside the first minute when Alex Song's cross was nodded in by Marouane Chamakh, who doubled the lead on the counterattack in added time.

Newcastle United FC stayed fifth despite a 2-1 reverse at home to Blackburn Rovers FC, with Bolton Wanderers FC sixth after a 94th-minute Jermaine Beckford goal denied them in a 1-1 draw at ten-man Everton FC. Aston Villa FC were the only other victors − 3-2 at home to a Blackpool FC side who equalised twice − as Liverpool FC drew 1-1 at Wigan Athletic FC and bottom-of-the-table West Ham United FC versus West Bromwich Albion FC finished 2-2.
