Belgian international full-back Jelle Van Damme will make a quick return to his homeland in the January transfer window after R. Standard de Liège reached an agreement to sign him from Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

The 27-year-old defender will move for an undisclosed fee, reported to be €3m, joining Standard on a three-and-a-half-year deal. Van Damme arrived at Wolves from RSC Anderlecht in the summer, but has struggled to gain a regular starting berth at Molineux, making six Premier League appearances and scoring one goal.

Capped 27 times by Belgium, the former KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen, AFC Ajax, Southampton FC and SV Werder Bremen player was also attracting interest from Club Brugge KV and Anderlecht.

However, he opted for Standard, saying: "I have always known I would play for this club one day. I have always had a special feeling for Standard. The stadium, the warmth and family atmosphere: I will be proud to wear this shirt."
