Sunderland AFC were the only Premier League victors on Saturday, beating Bolton Wanderers FC 1-0 to leapfrog Owen Coyle's side into sixth.

With four English top-flight games postponed due to heavy snowfall – and all three of Sunday's matches also already off – Bolton could have gone fifth with victory. They now sit seventh, though, a point adrift of Sunderland. Steve Bruce's team prevailed thanks to a solitary 32nd-minute goal, Danny Welbeck heading in his fifth effort in six games after Jussi Jääskeläinen had parried Darren Bent's attempt.

Bottom club West Ham United FC moved a point closer to safety after picking up a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers FC in the day's only other fixture. Ryan Nelsen (51) gave Blackburn the lead in their first outing following manager Sam Allardyce's departure, but Junior Stanislas ensured the spoils were shared 12 minutes from time.
