• Born in Nakhchivan, Rovnag Abdullayev studied civil engineering in Moscow and worked his way up to become a major figure in Azerbaijan's oil industry; he has been head of the state oil company since 2005.
• President of top Baku club PFK Neftçi since 2004, he oversaw successes in the league and the Commonwealth Cup – the competition that brings together champions of the former Soviet Republics – before being elected president of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) on 14 March 2008. He was re-elected unanimously for a second term in March 2012, and won a third four-year term in March 2016.

We have a strategy for the future of the national team, but we know that to develop the national team, we must start at the grassroots.
