Tottenham Hotspur FC missed the chance to rise to third in the Premier League as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at Blackpool FC that kept Harry Redknapp's side two points behind Manchester City FC.
Blackpool started brightly and opened the scoring when Sébastien Bassong brought down DJ Campbell and Charlie Adam swept in the resultant penalty after 18 minutes. Tottenham, who welcome AC Milan with a 1-0 advantage for their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg on 9 March, dominated the rest of the opening 45 minutes but were caught on the counterattack when James Beattie's cross was tapped in by Campbell on the stroke of half-time.
Another Blackpool counter, coupled with some poor Tottenham defending, allowed Brett Ormerod (80) to make it 3-0, with Spurs' consolation arriving through an added-time Roman Pavlyuchenko effort. The Tangerines move up to 12th, five points above the relegation zone.
