LOSC Lille Métropole must avoid defeat against Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday if they are to return to the Ligue 1 summit, having been deposed by Stade Rennais FC.

Frédéric Antonetti's men became overnight leaders after a 2-0 success against struggling RC Lens – their fourth consecutive league win – took them a point clear of Lille, thanks to goals from Abdoulrazak Boukari (14) and Víctor Montaño (70).

The other two victories of the day came at AS Saint-Étienne and FC Girondins de Bordeaux, with OGC Nice upsetting the Verts 2-0 with second-half strikes by Kafoumba Coulibaly and Anthony Mounier. Bordeaux emerged 3-0 winners against AJ Auxerre thanks to Alou Diarra's opener (12), Anthony Modeste's penalty (53) and Jaroslav Plašil's first goal since 15 August.

Elsewhere, sixth-placed Montpellier Hérault FC and FC Lorient were held to goalless stalemates at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and Valenciennes FC respectively, while Stade Brestois 29, in ninth, drew 1-1 with rock-bottom AC Arles-Avignon. AS Monaco FC remain in the relegation zone after squandering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw at home to SM Caen.
