SSC Napoli failed to make up ground on Serie A leaders AC Milan, losing 2-0 to AC Chievo Verona on a night when fellow Scudetto chasers AS Roma also dropped points.
Knowing a victory would haul them to within two points of the summit following Milan's draw with S.S. Lazio 24 hours earlier, Napoli succumbed to goals from Davide Moscardelli (20) and a first of the campaign for defender Gennaro Sardo (50). Roma could have drawn level with Lazio, two points further back in third, but were held to a 1-1 draw by Brescia Calcio. The Giallorossi are nonetheless unbeaten at home in the league since 25 April.
Elsewhere, Fabrizio Miccoli opened the scoring against his former club as US Città di Palermo rose to sixth by defeating Juventus 2-1. Udinese Calcio, one place below, drew 1-1 with Bologna FC − for whom Marco Di Vaio (64) registered his 14th league goal this term – while AC Cesena against Calcio Catania also ended all square.
ACF Fiorentina and Cagliari Calcio, meanwhile, were 1-0 winners against Genoa CFC and UC Sampdoria respectively and US Lecce climbed out of the relegation zone thanks to a late winner away to Parma FC.
