FC Internazionale Milano leapfrogged SSC Napoli to move within two points of Serie A pacesetters AC Milan after a 1-0 home win against Cagliari Calcio.

The Nerazzurri took the lead on seven minutes, when Houssine Kharja followed up to score his third goal since joining the club in January after his initial effort had been blocked by Michael Agazzi.

Though the visitors pressed for an equaliser late on, Inter − winners in nine of their 11 Serie A matches since Leonardo took charge − held firm to heap the pressure on Milan, who were 13 points clear of their city rivals in mid-December. The Rossoneri can restore their five-point advantage by overcoming AC Chievo Verona on Sunday.

Bologna FC are up to 12th place, level on points with Genoa CFC and ACF Fiorentina, following a last-gasp win against ten-man US Città di Palermo. The Rossoblù had a number of chances to win the match after Palermo's Santiago García received a second yellow card (59) and Delio Rossi's men appeared to have held on for a point until substitute Daniele Paponi headed Matteo Rubin's cross past Salvatore Sirigu.
