RCD Espanyol's hopes of tightening their grip on fifth spot in the Liga were hit by a 2-1 loss to RCD Mallorca.

Espanyol seemed on course for a second home win in three days following Saturday's 4-1 defeat of Real Sociedad de Fútbol, when Álvaro Vázquez (19) sprung the offside trap and calmly slotted past Dudu Aouate.

Pierre Webó equalised on 63 minutes, heading in Sergio Tejera's free-kick, with Emilio Nsue (83) tapping in the winner after Carlos Kameni reacted well to stop Aki's powerful effort.

Mallorca rise one place to tenth, four points and three places behind Sevilla FC, who defeated ten-man Real Sporting de Gijón 3-0. Luís Fabiano (28) gave Sevilla the lead from the spot moments after being brought down by Sebastián Eguren, who was dismissed. Strikes from Diego Perotti (35) and Álvaro Negredo (65) completed a comfortable home win.
