The Spanish Liga's bottom side UD Almería have sacked coach José Luis Oltra following Monday's 3-1 home defeat by Athletic Club.
The 42-year-old has been unable to halt Almería's decline after replacing Juan Manuel Lillo in the wake an 8-0 home loss to FC Barcelona in November. Oltra took charge with the team on nine points from 12 Liga games, and although he led them to the Copa del Rey semi-finals, he could not inspire a significant revival: Almería's 17 points from as many matches under his command leave the Andalusian outfit four points from safety at the foot of the table. The club say they will name a successor before Saturday's visit to Barcelona.
