Arsenal FC moved back within seven points of Premier League leaders Manchester United FC after winning 3-1 at struggling Blackpool FC.
Jens Lehmann made an unexpected comeback for Arsenal following an injury to Manuel Almunia in the warm-up, the 41-year-old German goalkeeper's first Gunners appearance since 2008. The home side started brightly at Bloomfield Road but two goals in four minutes gave the visitors a control they rarely looked like relinquishing. Robin van Persie laid on the first for Abou Diaby after 18 minutes before Emmanuel Eboué drilled in not long later after bursting into the Blackpool area.
Gary Taylor-Fletcher gave Ian Holloway's side some hope on 52 minutes but Arsenal broke away to seal the victory 14 minutes from time through Van Persie. Arsène Wenger's men have a game in hand on the leaders, who defeated Fulham FC 2-0 on Saturday, and will host United on 1 May. Blackpool remain a point above the relegation zone.
Aston Villa FC are now five points above the bottom three after James Collins headed the only goal at home to Newcastle United FC in the late game. Manchester City FC travel to Liverpool FC in Monday night's fixture with both teams harbouring European ambitions.
