VfL Wolfsburg moved out of the Bundesliga bottom three with a 1-0 win at SV Werder Bremen but FC St Pauli remained at the foot of the table after a 2-0 defeat by 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Sascha Riether tapped in the only goal for Felix Magath's men after a save from Tim Wiese to give Wolfsburg back-to-back league victories for the first time since September and lift them above Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Köln. Bremen remain four points clear of Frankfurt, who drop to third-bottom ahead of Saturday's game at 1. FSV Mainz 05.

St Pauli are now six points behind fourth-bottom Köln and Wolfsburg after Christian Tiffert (29) and Mathias Abel (68) made it one point from ten matches for the basement club and left them on the verge of an immediate return to the second tier.
