Juventus got their Serie A campaign off to the perfect start as they put four goals past Parma FC in their first competitive match at the newly opened Juventus Arena.

Summer signing Stephan Lichtsteiner struck first (16), before Simone Pepe (58), Arturo Vidal (73) and Claudio Marchisio (83) got Antonio Conte's regime up and running. Sebastian Giovinco grabbed a consolation in added time – his fourth goal against the Turin club he left in 2010.

FC Internazionale were dealt an early blow as they lost a seven-goal thriller in the late match at US Città di Palermo. Two goals by Diego Milito (33, 51) and a late Diego Forlán strike could not prevent the Rosanero from taking all three points thanks to goals by Fabrizio Miccoli (48, 86), Abel Hernández (54) and Mauricio Pinilla (88)

Neither was it an auspicious start for Luis Enrique, whose tenure at AS Roma had already begun with elimination from the UEFA Europa League by ŠK Slovan Bratislava; the 2-1 home reverse against Cagliari Calcio will not have helped his cause. Former Roma midfielder Daniele Conti (68) and Mostapha El Kabir (90+3) scored for the visitors, before Daniele De Rossi's added-time effort for Roma – who had José Ángel sent off with 21 minutes remaining.

Elsewhere there were 2-0 wins for Udinese Calcio – for whom Dušan Basta (2) and Antonio Di Natale scored (16) against US Lecce – and ACF Fiorentina, against Bologna FC, while Genoa CFC and AC Chievo Verona were each held to respective 2-2 home draws by promoted sides Atalanta BC and Novara Calcio.
