Juventus moved a point clear of Udinese Calcio at the top of Serie A following a 1-0 victory at S.S. Lazio.
In an exciting contest at the Stadio Olimpico both sides squandered chances before Simone Pepe (34) finished off a fine move involving Mirko Vučinić and Alessandro Matri. Lazio pushed on in the second half, but though Hernanes hit the post, an equaliser eluded Eduardo Reja's men, who play FC Vaslui in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
Napoli recorded a memorable UEFA Champions League triumph against Manchester City FC in midweek but only narrowly avoided defeat at Atalanta BC, whose striker and former Napoli favourite Germán Denis − Serie A's top scorer with ten goals – had given them the lead in Bergamo. Tuesday's two-goal hero Edinson Cavani pounced in added time to earn the visitors a draw.
Calcio Catania are a point better off in sixth place, level with AS Roma, who lost 2-0 to Udinese on Friday, thanks to a last-minute strike by Pablo Barrientos against US Lecce. Novara Calcio, meanwhile, moved out of the bottom three after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 home win against Parma FC, their first success since 20 September.
