AC Cesena have appointed Daniele Arrigoni as coach after parting company with Marco Giampaolo in the wake of Sunday's 2-0 defeat at FC Parma, which left the Romagna club rock bottom of Serie A.
After previous spells at Cagliari Calcio, Bologna FC, AS Livorno Calcio and Torino FC, the Cesena-born 52-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the season. Despite the side earning just three draws from their nine league games so far, Arrigoni is confident of survival. "I think we have a good chance of avoiding relegation," he said. "Coaching my hometown club is a dream for me. My only objective is to lead the side to safety."
The 44-year-old Giampaolo had arrived in the summer on a two-year contract. "We wanted to see a different kind of reaction from the team," said president Igor Campedelli after Sunday's game. "We did not want to take this kind of action but I think it is the only option we have right now."
