Manchester City FC failed to take all three points for just the second time in the Premier League this term as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Liverpool FC.

Looking to capitalise on second-placed Manchester United FC's Saturday stalemate against Newcastle United FC, Roberto Mancini's Premier League leaders went ahead just after the half-hour at Anfield. Captain Vincent Kompany got the goal when he rose highest to head in David Silva's corner.
That lead lasted barely two minutes, however, Joleon Lescott unwittingly turning Charlie Adam's speculative shot past Joe Hart and into his own net.

Both sides had spells of ascendancy thereafter but could not find a winner. City, five points clear of United, were reduced to ten men when substitute Mario Balotelli was dismissed seven minutes from time.

The day's only other fixture in England produced a goalless draw between Swansea City AFC and Aston Villa FC.
