Stoke City FC are eighth in the Premier League following a 1-0 win against Everton FC.

Having booked their place in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 on Thursday, Stoke kept the momentum going thanks to Robert Huth's 15th-minute strike. The Potters are now two points and as many places ahead of David Moyes' team.

In the day's other game, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC pulled four points clear of the relegation zone thanks to a 2-1 home win against Sunderland AFC. With new manager Martin O'Neill watching from the stands, the visitors took the lead through Kieran Richardson's swerving shot (52) but parity was restored on 72 minutes when Steven Fletcher headed in Matt Jarvis's cross barely 30 seconds after Wayne Hennessey had saved a Sebastian Larsson penalty.

Fletcher's neat finish nine minutes from time completed the turnaround and left Sunderland just a point above the bottom three.

Also on Sunday, the top two in the Premier League, Manchester City FC and Manchester United FC, were drawn against each other in the FA Cup third round. Ties will be played on 7 and 8 January.
