Villarreal CF have announced that youth team coach and former Spanish international goalkeeper José Molina will take charge of first-team affairs until the end of the season following the dismissal of Juan Carlos Garrido.
A member of Club Atlético de Madrid's league and cup double-winning side of the mid-1990s, Molina amassed in excess of 400 Spanish top-flight appearances during a playing career that also took in spells at Villarreal, Albacete Balompié, RC Deportivo La Coruña and Levante UD.
After retiring in 2007, the winner of the Ricardo Zamora trophy and nine caps for Spain took up a coaching role with Villarreal's third team two years later before stepping up to take charge of the club's second string. Molina, 41, has been charged with improving the Yellow Submarine's Liga fortunes with the club lying one place above the relegation zone after just three wins in 16 outings this term.
The 2006 UEFA Champions League semi-finalists were eliminated from this season's edition of Europe's premier club competition after losing all six of their group matches.
