København part company with Nilsson

Danish Superliga leaders FC København have parted company with coach Roland Nilsson after six months in the job.

Managing director Anders Hørsholt said: "We have to accept that FC København and Roland Nilsson did not agree on the way the team should be led, and therefore the parties had to separate." Sporting director Carsten V Jensen will add Nilsson's former role to his responsibilities for now with FCK resuming their league campaign on 3 March.

The 48-year-old former Sweden defender Nilsson joined from Malmö FF last summer to replace FC Köln–bound Ståle Solbakken following FCK's third straight Danish title and a run to the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Nilsson won the Swedish title in his last full season at Malmö, and led København to a four-point lead at the top of the Superliga at the Danish winter break, but his side exited the UEFA Champions League following a play-off against FC Viktoria Plzeň and were unable to progress past the UEFA Europa League group stage.
