Cup successes for Inter and Valencia

A comfortable 2-1 win against Genoa CFC saw FC Internazionale Milano through to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals while Valencia CF have one foot in the last four in Spain.

FC Internazionale Milano will take on SSC Napoli in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals after a comfortable 2-1 win against Genoa CFC, while Valencia CF are in sight of an appetising Copa del Rey last-four fixture.

Maicon found the top corner with a brilliant long-range strike after eight minutes at San Siro, and Genoa's chances of coming back dwindled after Andrea Poli traded passes with Joel Obi before hitting Inter's second of the night five minutes into the second half. Valter Birsa pulled one back for Genoa in added time.

Valencia, meanwhile, got the better of neighbours Levante UD in their quarter-final opener, with the winners after next week's second leg to take on either FC Barcelona or Real Madrid CF in the two-legged semi-final in February. Jonas struck to set his side on the way to a 4-1 success, with Roberto Soldado and Pablo Piatti registering either side of Arouna Koné's effort for Levante. Tino Costa completed the rout late on.
