Last season's semi-finalists Bolton Wanderers FC eased into the FA Cup fourth round while Queens Park Rangers FC made heavier weather of their third-round replay against Milton Keynes Dons FC, edging though 1-0.

A first-minute goal from Kevin Davies put Bolton in control of their tie against Macclesfield Town FC, who found a two-goal deficit to be irretrievable once Martin Petrov had doubled the Trotters' lead midway through the first half.

The Premier League's other participants on Tuesday, QPR, had not won an FA Cup game for 11 years and it seemed not even the recent arrival of manager Mark Hughes could end their jinx. However, Danny Gabbidon headed a 73rd-minute winner against their third-tier opponents to set up a west London derby with Chelsea FC in the next round.

Elsewhere, second-flight outfits Leicester City FC and Millwall FC made light work of their third-round replays, triumphing 4-0 and 5-0 against Nottingham Forest FC and Dagenham and Redbridge FC respectively. Both Leicester's Jermaine Beckford and Millwall's Darius Henderson helped themselves to hat-tricks.
