Milan Biševac's sixth-minute goal at Stade Brestois 29 kept Paris Saint-Germain FC on top in Ligue 1, but Montpellier Hérault SC, LOSC Lille Métropole and Olympique Lyonnais kept up the pace at the top end.
Biševac was grateful for a deflection off Bruno Grougi as his untidy shot from Christope Jallet's corner found the net in Brest, with Carlo Ancelotti leading PSG to a fourth successive victory since taking charge. Unbeaten in nine games in all competitions, they would have gone five points clear at the top had Olivier Giroud not struck at the death to give Montpellier a 1-0 win at OGC Nice.
Lille beat AS Saint-Etienne 3-0 in the late game, with debutant Nolan Roux scoring twice after Eden Hazard had put his side ahead from the spot. Lyon remain a place behind Lille in fourth after two late goals earned them a 3-1 victory against Dijon FCO.
Meanwhile, a single goal was enough for Toulouse FC to get the better of SM Caen. FC Sochaux-Montbéliard remain in the relegation zone following a 1-1 draw at FC Lorient, but they are now level on points with AJ Auxerre, who were beaten 3-1 at home by AS Nancy-Lorraine.
