Real Sporting de Gijón have dismissed coach Manuel Preciado after a run of six defeats in their last eight games put them in the Liga relegation zone.

The 54-year-old Preciado leaves the Asturias club after five and a half seasons, having taken the reins in 2006 and led Sporting into the Spanish top flight in his second campaign in charge. Under the former Real Racing Club defender, the Rojiblancos finished tenth last term but have struggled this season. Following last Sunday's 5-1 loss at Real Sociedad de Fútbol, they lie second from bottom.

Preciado's assistant Iñaki Tejada will take over first-team affairs for this Sunday's encounter against CA Osasuna at El Molinón.
