Sevilla FC have dismissed coach Marcelino García Toral after the 46-year-old failed to halt a run of disappointing results.
"Sevilla FC wishes to express its appreciation to Marcelino for the professionalism with which he carried out his duties and we regret having to take this drastic decision which is based upon recent results," read a statement from the club, who are 11th in the Spanish Liga.
Marcelino joined Sevilla on a one-year deal last June, replacing Gregorio Manzano, but endured a difficult start with his side eliminated in the UEFA Europa League play-offs by Hannover 96. The Andalusian team then went unbeaten in their opening nine Liga games, but the 2-1 home defeat by Villarreal CF at the weekend was Sevilla's fifth reverse in seven league outings, prompting the former Real Sporting de Gijón, RC Recreativo de Huelva, Real Zaragoza and Real Racing Club boss's dismissal.
