Hoffenheim announce split with Stanislawski

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have parted company with coach Holger Stanislawski following the Bundesliga side's surprise elimination from the German Cup by SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

The decision was reached on Thursday morning in the wake of Hoffenheim's 1-0 home defeat at the hands of second-tier outfit Fürth in the German Cup quarter-finals.

"We value Holger Stanislawski both as a person and as a coach, but after long and constructive talks with him, we have come to the view that it is best for everyone to bring the current situation to a close," said Hoffenheim general manager Ernst Tanner. "Recent developments with the team have certainly been a factor in our decision."

The 42-year-old ended an 18-year association as player and then coach of FC St Pauli to take the charge of Hoffenheim last summer but after a promising start, his side hit a bad run of form. Before their cup exit, Stanislawski's men had mustered just one win from their previous ten Bundesliga matches, leaving them eighth in the table. Assistant managers André Trulsen and Klaus-Peter Nemet have also left the club.
